Miles Monday presents:
A book signing party for Dark Magus: The Jekyll and Hyde Life of Miles Davis by his son Gregory Davis
Monday, December 4, 6:30-8
Mo Pitkin’s House of Satisfaction
34 Avenue A (between East 2nd and East 3rd Streets)
New York, NY 10009
Come meet musician and author Gregory Davis at a celebration of the release of his memoir, Dark Magus, detailing life with his father, Miles Davis.
Dark Magus (Backbeat Books, $24.95) is a no-holds-barred portrait of Miles Davis that strips away the public perception and gets down to the realities of his personality. The author also delves into Davis’s relationships with artists such as Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and John Coltrane, his role as a mentor to young musicians, the ups and downs of his career and its affect on his family, and the family’s turmoil over his final will.
Co-author Les Sussman will also be on hand to greet visitors and sign books.
The book party for Dark Magus is held in conjunction with Miles Monday, a weekly listening series devoted to the music of Miles Davis, held each Monday at Mo Pitkin’s from 6:30-8.
Miles Monday is an opportunity for folks to relax in a comfortable lounge, sip a beverage, listen to Miles Davis music through a good sound system, and discuss Miles’ music with like-minded aficionados, and other nice people. We play recorded music from every phase of
Miles’ ever-evolving career — from bop to cool to Gil to modal to abandonment of AABA to electric fusion transcendence to pop to hip hop. And it's free
